Improvement Ideas - Generators?
It's certainly no secret, at least in our community, that Dominion Electric service is less than stellar whenever the weather is inclement. It's a shame that we can literally touch the NOVEC power polls yet have no way to get their service! NOVEC clients I know in the area almost never lose power. Our constant outages are an unending source of sad but true jokes.
Unless someone can figure out how we can switch providers, the only way to have power in stormy weather or during high use periods, is to install a generator and set up a power conditioner to protect ourselves, our food, electrical equipment, and appliances.
Generators come in multiple sizes from small portables which can be used for hours or several days and safely stored in a garage or shed until required to 25+KW whole house units that turn on automatically and consume propane like kids in a candy store. Several HOA members have whole house generators and others have medium sized portables. The installation of both involves a host of concerns and costs.
Those of us still considering the options would like to hear about your experiences with generators, sizes, costs, results, providers, efficiency, and usefulness. Please join our forum and post your information. We will compile and post a table of homeowner feedback so that the community may benefit from your experiences and suggestions. We will not post any names or contact information on the table. Its purpose is to offer a downloadable PDF of suggestions, benefits, and pitfalls of opting for generators.
Please submit ideas/articles for the improvements column to admin@whhhoa.com.
